San Jose, CA-November 15-17, 2010, 6Sight Conference — Portrait Displays, Inc., a global leader in visual enhancement software for computer displays, will showcase its color-gamut control technology for wide-gamut displays. Portrait Displays will participate in the panel discussion, Advanced Output and Display, joining other industry leaders to discuss how new technologies, their advantages and pitfalls, help professional and novice consumers get the most from their photography investment.

Today’s computer users view a wide variety of content on their desktop and laptop displays. Editing digital photography, uploading photos to social-media sites, and viewing images to purchase merchandise for family and friends, are just a few examples of how important digital media has become.

As digital SLRs, as well as point-and-shoot cameras, capture images in colors that far exceed the sRGB domain of the typical LCD display, viewing these images in the proper color gamut throughout the workflow becomes more and more critical. They should be viewed both in their native gamut for accurate editing and post production, as well as in the sRGB gamut to see how users with restricted-gamut (sRGB) displays will view them. Wide-gamut displays provide a means to view the image as it was captured, without being restricted to the sRGB gamut.

Compare Color Spaces
Wide-gamut displays are capable of showing bright, highly-saturated colors. By controlling a wide-gamut display to a lesser gamut (Adobe RGB or sRGB) a content creator can preview an image as it would look to other users, for instance, in web browsers that restrict colors to sRGB.

Chroma Tune is a software solution that allows control of wide-gamut displays to various common color gamuts, including the display’s full native gamut. Users can switch between full gamut, Adobe RGB, and sRGB to “soft proof” their images in the same environment that the viewing public will use. Portrait Displays will be showcasing both its desktop and laptop solutions for wide-gamut displays and demonstrating how the technology lends itself to digital photography.
