Portrait Displays’ HDR Seminar Recap: A Successful Collaboration of Industry Leaders
On July 3rd, Portrait Displays, in partnership with Oknow Images Studio, ASUS, Sony, AJA, and renowned photographer Eric, hosted an HDR seminar at the Flagship Studio FTV (Formosa TV LED Virtual Studio). This event attracted a diverse audience of DITs (Digital Imaging Technicians), colorists, and compositors, highlighting the growing interest and importance of color accuracy and HDR technology in the industry.
The seminar saw impressive engagement with more than 300 registrants. Of these, 85 attended the event in person, while nearly 200 joined the live broadcast online.
Portrait Displays: The seminar began with an emphasis on the importance of color accuracy. Portrait Displays shared an episode of Color Matters starring Pictureshop’s Chief Color Scientist, Joshua Pines, and explained how Calman color calibration software and Portrait Displays’ hardware help colorists and DITs achieve Hollywood color standards.
Oknow Images: Oknow Images Studio shared valuable insights from the perspective of a DIT. They discussed the intricacies of collaborating and communicating with a film crew to ensure consistent color across various monitors, emphasizing the importance of a unified color workflow.
ASUS: ASUS showcased their latest ProArt monitor for creators, highlighting its advanced features designed to meet the needs of professionals in the creative industry. The demonstration illustrated the monitor’s capabilities in delivering precise and vibrant colors.
Sony: Sony presented a live demonstration of the Venice 2, their latest high-end camera designed for professional cinematography. This hands-on experience allowed attendees to test out the camera’s advanced features and its role in achieving high dynamic range imaging.
AJA: AJA demonstrated the HDR Image Analyzer 12G, ColorBox, and more cutting-edge technology. Their presentation focused on the importance of accurate image analysis and color management in the post-production process.
The seminar concluded with a session by Zhao Guanheng, the acclaimed photographer known for his work on iQIYI’s international original series “Danger Zone,” “The Cat in the Closet,” and “The Last Gentleness.” Zhao shared his practical experiences in photography, insights on meeting international production standards, and strategies for effective collaboration with international platforms.

An on-site product display area allowed attendees to experience the latest in color calibration technology. Portrait Displays demonstrated Calman Ultimate software, the C6 HDR2000 colorimeter, and the Portrait Displays G1 pattern generator. ASUS featured their latest ProArt models, including the PA32KCX, PA32UCDM, PA27JCV, and PA24US. AJA showcased the HDR Image Analyzer 12G, ColorBox, KUMO 1616 12G, KONA 5, and Hi5 12G. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Participants enjoyed the hands-on demonstrations and the opportunity to interact with the speakers.
